Give back as much as you can. This is the mantra by which the FLEX alumni community lives. We try to give 365 days a year and seven days a week but there is a special day in the year that we particularly love – Global Youth Service Day.
Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the largest youth service and civic action event in the world and the only one that celebrates, expands, and sustains the capacity of all youth ages five through 25 and their communities to thrive by working together for the common good.
To celebrate GYSD 2019, FLEX alumni in Armenia organized a book drive for the regional library in Vayk (Vayots Dzor). During the second and third weeks of April, alumni promoted the book drive on social media and among their networks, collecting over 30 books as a result. On April 27, FLEX alumni delivered Vayk Regional Library’s first ever collection of English-language books; from fiction to autobiographies, fairytales and more, the regional library in Vayk now has a varied selection of English language books for the readers of the southern Armenian town.
FLEX alumni share this advice from their GYSD experience: Give to your community whenever you can, whether it’s Global Youth Service Day or any other day of the year.
“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
