The FLEX Public Service Announcement Online Training Course, a first-of-its-kind Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) designed to walk FLEX Alumni through the process of creating a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to target an important issue in their home community, came to an end on July 1.

Seven hundred and thirty alumni and program finalists participated in the course, and feedback was positive, with one participant noting that “lectures were short and easy to understand, with great teachers, lots of examples, and great humor.”

Through a mix of interactive videos and quizzes, participants learned how to create engaging media using storytelling, photography, audio, and video to address a public need. After guiding their way through the asynchronous video content, participants were tasked with creating and submitting their own public service announcement to address an issue of public concern in their home country. Topics generated by participants included how to combat COVID-19, gender and LGBTQ rights, the importance of International Exchange and World Languages, climate change, and the value of community safety.
