On February 15, American Councils staff, FLEX alumni, and Education USA in Latvia had the honor of hosting Dr. Sam Potolicchio, director of Global Education at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, for a guest lecture on “Making Hard Decisions in A Complicated World” at the Riga Business School.

The session offered attendees an array of decision-making challenges. The audience was asked to make bold predictions, come up with new ideas, and test their confidence in the probability of their predictions coming true. They quickly learned that you can never be certain of your predictions since the likelihood of them coming true is not within your control.  Even the slightest change in events can alter the outcome. Participants learned that this is one of the most important aspects to take into consideration when making decisions. Throughout the session, Dr. Potolicchio presented different approaches on how to efficiently manage time, make decisions, and objectively judge any situation.

The 4 FLEX alumni who attended the event were thrilled about the opportunity. They found the session fascinating, as well as very useful in their personal and professional life. They also had the chance for a meet-and-greet with Dr. Potolicchio after the lecture.  Alumni asked him how to be more efficient when choosing the right path for their future careers and how they can continue improving themselves.
