In celebration of International Education Week (IEW) 2012 FLEX alumni in Yerevan, Armenia organized various activities to celebrate international education. In a two-part effort, alumni worked with the community to promote the reading of foreign literature and to hold professional development opportunities.
Alumni worked together with the NGO Emanuel and the EducationUSA Advising center to share international fairy tales with disabled children. The children received an introduction to the most beloved children’s stories of other cultures and learned about international education opportunities such as the FLEX program. The push for reading continued at the Khnko Aper Children’s Library, where alumni together with the EducationUSA Advising center team translated traditional English-language fairy tales into Armenian in celebration of IEW. In culmination of the event, alumni held a flashmob in the center of the city to celebrate Yerevan’s appointment of World Book Capital of 2012 an IEW.
Alumni also dedicated IEW to professional development opportunities for fellow alumni and youth in the community. Alumni Coordinator for Armenia Anna Hovakimyan ‘08 led two sessions on writing a successful resume and cover letter at the American Councils office for alumni and again at the Heratsi School for 20 10-12th grade students.
