FLEX alumni, having studied abroad in high school, often serve as a great resource for members of their community to learn about opportunities to study outside of their home country. FLEX Alumni in Latvia are excellent ambassadors for international education and have promoted studying, exchange, and professional development opportunities abroad on many occasions.
In September and October of 2019, FLEX alumni contributed actively to the recruitment effort of the American Councils office in Riga. In total, Latvian alumni gave 42 presentations in 12 different cities across the country reaching over 1,200 high school students.
On October 15, EducationUSA in Latvia and FLEX alumni hosted a representative from New York University (NYU). The alumni organized talks for the NYU representative to speak to students in their schools to share opportunities to study abroad, the application process, acquiring financial aid, life as a college student, the many NYU campuses, and much more!
International education promotion did not stop with FLEX recruitment. On November 16, 11 FLEX alumni volunteered at the EducationUSA University Fair in Riga, which hosted representatives from 15 U.S. Universities, the FLEX Program, the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF), Riga Business School, and the U.S. Embassy.
Studying abroad has had a positive impact on FLEX alumni and has motivated them to share similar opportunities with the people around them. Studying abroad not only gives you a new perspective and experiences, it also helps you grow as an individual which is why sharing these opportunities is crucial for providing more and more people every year with the life changing opportunity that is international education!
