FLEX Alumni Russia Mentoring Program: Program Cycle 2

Program Announcement and Call for Applications

The FLEX Alumni program in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia proudly announces the launch of the FLEX Alumni Russia Mentoring Program. This six month-long mentoring program is a professional development opportunity aimed at connecting senior and junior FLEX alumni to develop professional contacts, network, and explore the vibrant Russian FLEX alumni community.

Both senior and junior alumni are invited to apply to participate in this program by completing the online application. The participating junior alumni will be assigned to a mentor – a senior alumnus/a of a U.S. Government sponsored exchange program, according to shared professional interests and personal compatibility.

Mentors: Senior FLEX (’94-’08) and other U.S. Government programs alumni  who are currently pursuing their mid or long-term career plans, possess relevant experience and a desire to share their skills and knowledge with younger alumni.

Mentors will commit to:

• Participation in the program opening including a professional development seminar in St. Petersburg, Russia on the evening of October 21 and throughout the day on October 22.
• Conducting a meeting (either in person or online) with their mentees at least once per month from October 2016 – March 2017.
• Establishing effective and sustainable communication with their mentees via Internet, phone calls, etc.
• Helping to achieve the FLEX Alumni Mentoring Program objectives by following guidance given in training and materials.

Mentors will receive:

• the opportunity to give back to the alumni community by helping talented young people in achieving their professional aspirations;
• valuable first-hand experience in strategic coaching management;
• a handbook on structuring the mentoring process;
• participation in a mentorship training by an acknowledged international professional and a professional development seminar with mentors from the first and second program cycles led by trainers of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Managers program;
• transportation support to participate in receptions for the opening and closing of the program.

Mentees: Junior FLEX alumni (’09-’15) who are currently students or recent graduates of universities just entering the workforce in Russia and beginning the search for their vocation and professional field.

Mentees will commit to:

• Participation in the program opening including a professional development seminar in St. Petersburg, Russia on October 21 and in the morning of October 22.
• Attending planned meetings with mentors in a timely and responsible manner;
• Participation in professional online enhancement trainings and in-person sessions.

Mentees will receive:

•  the opportunity to learn from senior alumni by engaging in personal and informal communication;
• valuable career and professional insight and advice to aid in achieving their goals;
• a handbook, in-person, and online trainings on participating in the mentorship process that includes professional and personal growth strategies;
• invitation and transportation support to participate in receptions for the opening and closing of the program
