Nargiza Kanybek kyzy ’13 and Asel Matieva ’13 organized the “I Can Make a Change!” project on August 8-12, 2013 in Aral, Kyrgyzstan. The alumni team traveled to the regional village of Aral, Kyrgyzstan with the intent purpose of teaching the young people in the village about the FLEX program and prepare them for the opportunity to take part in FLEX testing in the fall. Alumni and other volunteers also taught the children the basics of hip hop and the rules of basketball, skills that the alumni leaders developed while on the FLEX program. Organizers also made presentations about the program in the city of Talas and the village of Chekalov. The goal of the project was to inform smaller communities about FLEX and other educational opportunities.
